Dual Battery charging clusters
To be used in the following systems:
1. Single outboard dual battery bank.
2. Single alternator inboard engine dual battery bank.
Pre-assembled module with solid links and application labels combining three 701 Mini Battery Master Switches with a 100 amp Voltage Sensitive Relay. This system is an ideal replacement for an existing four position battery selector switch, easily connected to the existing wires, to provide a fully automatic battery management system. Provides for isolation of start and house batteries independently with the ability to emergency parallel supply from both.
The VSR will automatically prioritise the charging of the start battery. When the engine is first started the relay is open and remains open until the start battery has reached a preset 13.7 volt. At the rated voltage, the relay closes providing charge to both batteries (start and house). When the voltage drops below 12.8 volt (when the engine is stopped), the VSR disengages, separating the batteries. This system eliminates the possibility of draining the start battery and protects electronics powered by the house battery from harmful engine starting spikes.
VOLTAGE SENSITIVE RELAY DETAILS: 710-140A (Single Sense)
The Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) allows two batteries to be charged at the same time. When the engine is started and the start battery reaches 13.7 volts, the VSR engages, allowing two battery banks (start and house) to be charged simultaneously. When the voltage drops below 12.8 volts (eg the engine is stopped), the VSR disengages, separating the batteries. This system eliminates the possibility of draining the start battery and protects sensitive electronic equipment powered from the house battery from harmful engine start up spikes.
Advantages of fitting a VSR over conventional charge (diode isolators):
Easy 3 wire connection at the battery. No need to bypass existing alternator wiring.
VSRs have no volt drop. Conventional diode isolators incur a minimum of 0.6 volt drop.
